Afro. Reality. Truth.

"I have argued for many years now that the worst crime that we can commit is to teach our children that our history began with slavery."

                                                                                                 - Author and historian, Runoko Rashidi.

We at ART believe that we must slave ourselves for causes. We dream of a different continent, one in which every person born of it is unabashed when professing that AFRO is pride.

As there were civilizations, thinkers, kings and dynasties in the golden age of Afro, the kingsmen are here again, kicking down clichés and proving the world wrong about the unpalatable way they might see us. The idea is to create original material that brings to our audience, content that tells the truth of the African reality, be it the greats of the past, the game changers of today, or the heralds of a new era soon to rise; what it means to be “us." To news media, both local and especially foreign, it’s often about the next breaking news, a dark continent rife with stories of humanity's shortcomings, but there's more to us, our history and our present reality than the tales of underdevelopment, corruption, terrorism and economic miscarriage that betides the continent. It's this IDEA that pushed us to create A.R.T Media featuring individuals, historical recollections, fictional stories and artistic creations through which we can reimagine the African identity, because these things are incarnations of the continent's dreams and potential, our reality and truth.

It's more than an idea. More than a movement. More than revolution, ART is a nod to the fact that we know who we were, are, and can be, and the fact that we unafraid to show it. It's Afro. It's Reality. It's Truth.

AFRICAN ORIGINS OF ANCIENT ASIAN CIVILIZATIONS. According to the “Out of Africa” hypothesis, all people of today have inherited the same mitochondria from a woman who lived in Africa about 160,000 years ago, so named Mitochondrial Eve. The Y chromosomes possessed by all men was inherited from a man who lived 140,000–500,000 years ago, probably in Africa. This man is known as the Y-chromosomal Adam. This fact is pivotal in understanding Africans' place as ancestors of all humanity, and architects of the world's first civilizations. Early China. The Blacks of China were known in historical literature by many names, including Negro, Austroloid, Oceanean by the Europeans. The East Indians and Mongoloid groups had other names for these Blacks such as Dara. Yueh-chi. Yaksha, Suka, and K’un-lun. Lushana and Seythians.  It’s been over  100,000 years ago  since m odern humans left Africa.  Indeed, the modern Chinese have African origins, their ancestors having migrated t...

Wild Choc. Photography: The Gospel of Imagery.

THE GOSPEL OF IMAGERY    Wild Chocolate is a photography studio founded by Ms. Oluwadamilola Oyewunmi Oyewo in 2018, based in Lagos, Nigeria. It's all too easy to be drawn in by the raw, unapologetic aesthetics of her images, and the cool blend of colors, lights and shadows, but perhaps, what's most distinct about her work, is how it reduces the dissimilarities between somewhat differentiated phenomena- Art, photography and africanness to ignorable nuances; successfully bridging the world of Canvases and clicks, and pouring into that world, a generous helping of dark, smooth, choco- skin. In our interview with her for A.R.T.'s FACES,( coming soon, don't forget to click on subscribe on the top right corner to get free notifications and access to our ARTicles.) she spoke of image-craft, her inspirations and ideals (as well as a romantic confession we didn't see coming!) and furthered the gospel of which we speak of: that photography is an art!  But here, in Pixel To...
